This week we welcomed Pastor Tom back from vacation. Welcome home Pastor – we missed you...

Pastor Tom kicked off our new series “Urban Legends – Debunking Spiritual Myths”. Tom spoke on challenging the myths that affect our lives; beginning with...

Myth #1: It Doesn’t Matter What You Believe As Long As You’re Sincere

Here are a few other things we’ve been taught to believe...
1- God wants me to be happy (what does that mean when I’m hurt or sad?)
2- I can never change. I am a product of my environment
3- Christians can’t be involved in the world
4- We can’t legislate morality

Question: If you believe God will judge your life based on the decisions you make, will that affect your choices?

Who or what is going to be the authority of what we believe in our lives? Man or God? Culture or Christ? The problem with culture is it’s always changing. God never changes.

Our culture continually feeds us lies and we buy into them. Such as – All your problems are everyone else’s fault. You have no reason to feel guilty. You can have it all!

1 John 4:1 (LB) says – “Don’t always believe what you hear...for there are many false teachers around.”

Does what we believe affect our lives? Yes! Romans 1:25&26 “Instead of believing what they knew was the truth about God, they deliberately chose to believe lies....and God abandoned them”. That’s quite an affect! What we believe not only affects our lives here but it also affects our eternity.

So what is truth? What do you believe? In whom can you believe in? In the gospels you’ll read 80 times Jesus saying, “I tell you the truth...” And we know from Hebrews 6:18 that “It is impossible for God to lie”.

Changing your way of thinking and choosing truth over lies can be very scary, especially if you’ve grown up believing a myth. Like being told you’ll never be good enough. Or, you’re not lovable. You’ll never amount to anything. But God’s word tells us “The truth will set us free!” If the truth sets us free – then what do lies do? They keep us in bondage - they sink us.

We have to decide what is going to be the basis of our truth... The world or the Word!

The only source of absolute truth is God!

“Even if everyone else is a liar, God is true” – Romans 3:4
